ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

Don't replace it. Rethink it.

A digital guide to reuse, repair, rehome and recycle in your community.

Who is NSROC?

The Northern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (NSROC) is a regional alliance of councils working together to improve the sustainability and liveability of Northern Sydney.

Through shared initiatives and collaboration, NSROC supports local communities to reduce waste, protect the environment and build a more sustainable future.

THE WASTE HIERARCHY

Don't replace it. Rethink it.

Don't replace it. Rethink it. is a website to help people across Northern Sydney find practical ways to reuse, repair and rehome everyday items.

Whether you’re looking to borrow or hire something instead of buying it, repair an item to keep it in use, choose pre-loved, or find a new home for something you no longer need, this guide connects you with useful information, local services and options in your community. Recycling and disposal should be the last options we consider.

Wherever possible, it’s better to avoid unnecessary purchases, reuse what we already have, repair items, share or borrow, and pass things on so they can stay in circulation for longer. It’s about putting the waste hierarchy into practice. Keeping products and materials in use helps preserve the resources, energy and effort that have already gone into making them. It can also save money, reduce waste and lessen the need for new products and raw materials. The idea is simple: before you buy new or throw something away, rethink what’s possible.
